Recruitment Firm Commences Specialist Operating Theatre Recruitment for First Time

Specialty recruitment will result in estimated 40% turnover increase for firm over three years.

A UK-based recruitment firm has today announced that it is now able to recruit Operating Department Practitioners (ODP) and specialist nursing staff on a locum basis for the first time – which will result in a 40% increase in turnover for the firm over the next three years.

Edinburgh based Head Medical, which launched its UK division less than three years ago with experienced recruiter, Jo Hood at the helm, announced plans for a new theatre division last year following the strategic hire of Katie Campbell.  The recruiter has now been granted a Certificate of Registration from the Care Inspectorate meaning it can place both theatre nurses and ODPs in roles across Scotland.

With the accreditation now in place, Head Medical has extended Katie’s team to include Kelly McPherson, a recruitment consultant and Carol Beveridge, a registered nurse who both have backgrounds in recruiting these very specialist nursing roles. Whilst temporary in nature and speed of placement will be of the essence, the team will place skill at the centre of all recruitment; ensuring clients and candidates are matched by focusing on relationships with each other whilst meeting all requirements for employment.

With current estimates of NHS nursing vacancies hitting a record high of 40,000 roles across the UK, the move by Head Medical should help to relieve some of the pressure facing various clinics and surgeries.

Jim Godsal, managing director at Head Medical commented: “Our move into recruitment of theatre specialists marks a significant shift for the business and is one that we are really excited about. We have been working with the Care Inspectorate for about six months and are committed to ensuring we treat the placement of ODPs in the same personal way that we would in finding a position for a doctor.

“The experience that our team brings to the table, allows us to know what candidates and employers want and need from roles. Our specialist team will be mindful of this and will be clear from the outset on what shifts, and skills will be best suited to the roles as they arise.”
